Audition Information

As listed on the Florida All State Audition Requirements

1. Three Scales selected from the All State 7 Major Scales (announced at time of audition) 2 octaves where appropriate (Successful additional Range/Octave granted additional points)

2. The Chromatic Scale as listed (Successful additional Range/Octave granted additional points)

3. A Portion of the All State Lyrical etude (dictated at the time of audition)

4. A brief sight reading exercise consistent with the All State Sight Reading Standards

* Please note that all percussionists will perform their major/chromatic scales on marimba/xylophone, perform a portion of the snare All State etude, and will sight read on timpani. 

All auditioning students can be placed in 1 of 2 bands: the Concert Band or the Honor Band based on the achievement of their audition. All schools sending students to audition are assured a seat in the Honor Band.

Winds will prepare both of the etudes below. Rhythm will prepare the FBA All State Swing Etude. 3 select of the 7 Major Scales and the Chromatic Scale per All State requirements is also part of the audition. Sight-reading and Improvisation (optional) will be included. Students auditioning on drum set will demonstrate, per FBA All- State requirements, steady time and creativity with a Rock, Bossa Nova and Swing pattern.

The All County requirements will be drawn from the All State requirements. The prepared exercise will be the Swing Etude. Sight-reading and Improvisation (optional) will be included. Per FBA All-State requirements, students auditioning for Lead Trumpet must also do a complete audition for section trumpet. Students auditioning on drum set will demonstrate, per FBA All-State requirements, steady time and creativity with a Rock, Bossa Nova, Swing and Jazz-Samba pattern.

The Gold Orchestra Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion positions will be offered to the highest point total students in each category. Should a student be unable/unwilling to participate, the offer will extend to the next greatest point total student and continue until all necessary seats are filled. This will be the role of the Co-Chairs and Orchestra Facilitator.
